battle against back painNew Reports Reflect Satisfactory Patient Results with Chiropractic Care

When you or someone you know is looking to relieve the suffering that comes with lower back pain, it is important to research the successes and failures of others who experience the same pain. The Consumer Reports Health Ratings Center has surveyed subscribers to their magazine for the past few years. The Consumer Reports findings, released in April and May 2009, are outlined below:

The Participants in the Survey

  • Over 14,000 of the participants reported lower back pain in the previous year, but did not have back surgery.
  • Half of the survey participants reported that the back pain was severe and limited their daily activities for one week or longer.
  • Many participants reported that the back pain conflicted with their sleep, sex, and goals to maintain an appropriate weight.
  • Of the participants, 86% reported that the back pain was reoccurring throughout the year.
  • Most participants reported trying five or six various treatments for relief.

The Percent of Participants Who Were Highly Satisfied With Their Healthcare Providers

Below is the percent of survey participants who reported being very satisfied or completely satisfied with the professionals who treated and advised them:

  • Chiropractor: 59%
  • Specialist Physician: 44%
  • Primary Care Physician: 34%
  • Physical Therapist: 55%
  • Acupuncturist: 53%

How Participants Ranked Lower Back Pain Therapies

Below is the percentage of survey participants who reported that a specific therapy was highly successful:

  • Chiropractic Care: 58%
  • Prescription Medication: 45%
  • Over-the-Counter Medication: 22%

In July of 2011, the Consumer Reports updated and released their findings. This more recent published report explained how Americans who suffer from lower back pain feel about their experiences with a variety of therapies, their healthcare providers, and the use of alternative approaches for relief. Once again, chiropractic therapy was considered to be the most popular choice of care to relieve back pain. Patients ranked chiropractic care the most satisfactory.

What a Chiropractor Can Do For You

A chiropractor can use spinal manipulation or chiropractic adjustments to relieve back pain sufferers. This therapy aides mobility and is drug free. A chiropractor may also employ other techniques, such as massages, special exercises, and nutrition, to work with the treatment plan. A chiropractor will focus on both immediate relief of lower back pain as well as the root of the problem. Consider a chiropractor for you or someone you care about to begin a path to an overall healthy pain-free lifestyle.
